Matisyahu Review = Ash rocks the Civic Ash Bay Area Backstage Reporter rocked the Civic

MATISYAHU

San Jose Civic Auditorium

Matisyahu. Enough said, one word and one man. His music has always been a favorite of mine since the first day I heard "A King Without A Crown" Matisyahu is one of those artists where you just can't differ between the genres of music he is performing. I mean one song hes into the whole reggae beats, then the next song beat boxing it up, then on to his hip/hop flows. When me and my boyfriend found out we were going to review Matisyahu we were truly emerged with pleasure and excitement. Matisyahu is just one of those music artists were you can't really tell how great he really is until you see him live and upfront in concert. Now me and stockboy arrive at the show, After dealing with some ticket buisness and finish our last stogie. We hurry up on into the auditorium.

As we enter the first thing I personally noticed was the crowd, the whole aura was this deep thinking hippie/reggae old school feel. As far as the different looks, everyone seemed really earthy and calm. Now this got me thinking that this show would be filled with my type of personalities. So we wander around this unique auditorium, I have honestly only been into the Civic Auditorium maybe one or twice not including this concert. So we walk around and get lost and we end up having to get kicked out of this Restriced Part of the place, not even knowing we were in such a not allowed area we walk back into the main floor.

As the opening band was ending we sat down and listened to about one song, now i didnt catch thier name but all I can say is that they were one interesting and unique band. Violins and backup dancers and horns, three drumsets and one very intersting and flamboyant singer. Very interesting. As they ended me and my boy go out to smoke one. We enter back onto the main floor. Matisyahu is about to enter. The crowd starts to chant him on and he emerges. Now all I have to say is that this man can flow he can sing and he can dance and he ain't to bad on being a looker.

Matisyahu starts singing and these intense bass beat come on. The whole crowd was just one big dance floor. Not one person was sitting still. Everyone was bobbing thier head to Matisyahu's deadly contagious beats and lyrics. He didn't say not a word for the first four or five songs. Since the show had started at about 9:30 and Hed didn't take stage till about 10:30 or so he was just performing just song after song. Each song had it's own unique beat and lyrics. As far as the stage goes, after each and song thier were just lights and lights flowing to each beat of the sound, For about an hour it almost seemed as if we all were entombed in one big light show It gave me the very close feel of being in a rave..

Very interesting. you seemed to just get sucked into His lyrics and his beats and the lights enchanced that feeling and for one song that he had sang it was almost as if i was under the influence of some sort of a substance. It was very herbal feeling without having any of the substances. Now if one singer and his music could possibly make anyone feel under the influence with out having to be under anything is one damn good of a performer. His music was so catchy and so wonderfull. I truly yearn to attend another one of his shows. Now as the show was comming to a close I looked at my watch 12:30 am!!?

The last time I checked the show had just began. It was one of those shows were you are having so much fun and so much to listen to that the time just flies by. The show was ending. As Matisyahu was walking off the stage and the show had ended. The crowd starts to chant "One Moreeeee One Moreee" over and over. As soon as everyone began to think it was truly over Matisyahu jumps out and starts this insanely sick freeflowing beatboxing. lasting for 15 mins.

Oh so intense then on to the instruments as he introduced each one of the members and sang just one more song in which the whole! main floor was dancing to. The show finally ended. As I cought my breath and came back to reality I realized I had just witnessed one of the best concerts I have personally ever been to. All I can say is that Matisyahu is one hell of an artist and one exciting individual and that his music should not be stereotyped or judged before going to one of his shows becouse this artist is one to love and watch. Overall. This show was an orgasm to the ears A+.
