N.I.N Backstage Crew Reporter Ash Review [Sunday, July 09, 2006]
Nine Inch NailsShoreline Pavillion
Already running extremly late, I was super nervous We were not going to get to the show on time for NIN, seeing as how it was already 8:30 and we were barely driving to Shoreline. Now usually, in fact majority of times I am on time and very early for shows. This particular time however I was running oh so late.
But being the patient and calm woman that I am I just surpassed being all nervous and what not. So my ride comes and we are off to the Shoreline. Me and my buddy arrive at around 8:45. There are still some lines outside so that instanly relaxed me. We missed the performance of Peaches and Bauhaus. I was soooo bummed seeing as how Bauhaus is one of my favorite bands of that particular genre.
Anyways, We get to the bag and body checks and It was not until that moment that I realized that I am at the NIN concert and every single person around me has thier own style and worth and reason on why they came to this particular event, So being the curious and somewhat social person that I am. I decided to go around and get some statistical information and facts on these concert goers. Seeing as how NIN didn't hit the stage till 9:30 and it was barely 8:50-9:00 ish. I figued had some extra time to see what was up at the Shoreline That night.
After signing up to be the designated driver and getting my soda I went around and basically started randomly asking people at booths or walking, even inside the restroom some questions that came from some curiousity i had. Some of the questions being, obviously. "who are you here for?" majority of NIN fans. So after just aimlessley walking around and really observing everything in detail it was already 9:15. 15 Mins. ahh yes. only I thought. The atmosphere to this Concert was very soothing to me, at some shows the feel and aura is very tense or destructive or brutal. The feeling of this show was very connected very in sync and people comming for the same reason and here for the same music Is what I think made the vibe of this show very trusting and calm. Which is another thing I noticed from that night, the atmosphere and feel of the show. For some reason I had no problem getting good vibes from people and reactions. It was very interesting. So now we find a place to sit, 9:30 -9:45 hits. NIN hits the stage. oooooh how long I have waited to see Trent and everybody live in concert. Too long I'll tell you. So some musical tunes come on for the opening, A big metal screen covering the stage which read a gigantic "NIN" across the top come up. That was one of my favorite effects of the night by the way, that huge metal screen, very neat. So trent starts singing the second his lips echo a noise from his mouth the crowd just absolutley goes wild and starts yelling "nine inch nails!" oooh so cool.
We are sitting way up in the lawn but I had a very good postion in which I could actually see the stage and all the band members on the stage. The one thing I love about NIN is all thier music is very beaty, rhythmic and easily danced to. Which is another thing that made this concert so laid back and the vibe was very chill. The audience just let loose everyone around me was dancing and singing along, the essence of smoke in the air mixed with booze and sweat. Ahhh the smell of a Shoreline summer night.
I'ts perfume I tell you! So Trent starts singing "Something I can Never Have" now let me tell you this is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE songs, not only for NIN but for my music taste as a whole. The crowd goes insane, The band starts off with very little intruments, pure vocals and essence. Then the band starts up, This particular perfomance of this song was insanely amazing! The whole crowd seemed like they all felt the emotion from Trent and it absorbed into them. It was very neat.
Then They play "Closer" crowd goes into insanity, Everybody just starts dancing on that first memorable measure of the song. I even found myself just going nuts and dancing away to this song, and seeing it live was mindblowing for me. They later played thier most well known songs throughout the night "Everyday is Exactly the same", "Head Like a Hole", "The Hand That Feeds" etc. The whole night to me seemed like a big family or gathering.
As for the people attending this show, ohh so unique. The vast majority of styles I observed from this show, Intense platform shoes, soo hot. Vinyl of course, It IS a NIN concert. Bare chest's with little strips of tape across stating "NIN" Trenchcoats, outrageous makeup and hairstyles and oh so very interesting clothing styles. But I loved every second of every minute of every hour of this show.
The Band was amazing live, Better than I had expected and for my first time seeing them live they did not let me down, They made the crowd go wild. It's like they have this amazing sound and stage precence which is why so many people are so into them. The crowd was amazing aswell, the whole vibe was very relaxed, only few shows I have been to have made me get that vibe, very neat yet strange.
Thus, overall NIN performed a killer show and even though I missed out on the "PEACHES" & "BAUHAUS" perfomance I had an amazing night and met some new people through this and really got to see what goes into a "NIN" nails performance and let me tell you it's amazing. Interesting people, laid back vibes, immense curiousity, Excellent band. What else is asked for in a concert? This concert I will keep in my book for a very long time.
